I have a desktop running Ubuntu 12.04 connected to an MP210 Canon printer. I can print singled sided OK but cannot seem to change to other print properties such as duplex printing. I also have a problem with printing out small data content which needs only a very small portion of A4(eg a short email message) whereby the paper never clears and I have to manually clear the paper and power off the printer to reset it. None of these problems are present using Windows OS.

If you meant this printer, it should work fine. Well, at least in Trisquel. By the way, Ubuntu has proprietary software in it, so we can't help you with it. This is a free software community.

I am looking for a stand-alone USB port GPS device that is supported. Since this does not seem to fit into any of the existing categories and there is no evidence of a general search for uncategorized items there seems to be no method of finding such a device in the database. Suggestions? Thanks

You can check GPSbabel). They have an extensive list of GPS devices and their characteristics (not so handy to filter). AFAIK modern GPS's use Bluetooth or USB in a standard manner, so no need of specific hardware drivers. (they send data in EMEA format)
