I actually have Trisquel 11 on the laptop, not Trisquel 10, but H-Node hasn't added that as an option.
Brightness on this laptop can be controlled using "light" command (available on Trisquel 11 repositories) by root user, or regular user in "video" group (just add the user to video group).
