  • screen brightness can be adjusted with the Fn+F7/F8 keyboard shortcuts
  • brightness does not get restored to the previous value after AC power removal/reconnection; to get it back you need to do 
    echo 24 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness
