notebook Galaxy SIII (GT-I9300)
model: Galaxy SIII (GT-I9300)(model id: 2187)
subtype (notebook, netbook, motherboard, tablet):
does it have a free boot firmware (BIOS,UEFI,...) ?
can free operating systems be installed?
does the device prevent installing wifi cards not-approved by the vendor?
year of commercialization:
compatibility with free software:
tested on:
Parabola GNU/Linux
Replicant 6.0
tested with the following kernel libre:
video card model:
(works, but without 3D acceleration)
wifi model:
(it does not work)
webcam model:
(it works)

With Parabola: The compatibility with free software is E, as Parabola cannot boot on the device that easily: The nonfree bootloader is incompatible with upstream Linux, which makes parabola impossible to boot unless you compile your own kernel or install another nonfree bootloader.

With Replicant 6.0: The compatibility with free software is "Class D (Bronze)" as "More than one device is not supported": The GPS doesn't work, nor the internal WiFi, nor Bluetooth, plus there is no 3D acceleration, but most applications work without it.

With Replicant 11: 3D acceleration works but the modem and many other things aren't supported yet.
