I'm not sure about this. For example, they list bcm43xx devices as working with free software (http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi#PCI_Devices), but then they explain how to install the b43 drivers, that shouldn't be free, while some of those cards could work with free software thanks to the drivers written by the openfwwf project.

This could be less risky.
Anyway, since there is a lot of work to do in order to find the vendorid and the productid and so on, I propose to finish the work of importing the FSF hardware database to h-node :P
