tonicucoz:
Are you sure that atheros is not the chipset name (it is the vendor name)?

tonicucoz:
I'm pretty sure Atheros is a chipset and not a device vendor..

we should find a nice way in order to list chipsets too.. perhaps in this case the right vendor for the wifi card is the notebook vendor, but the card has been already listed in the notebook page..

ohh.. I see. I thought that atheros was the chipset name too, but I had not idea how to add it. this is the lspci:
03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Atheros Communications Inc. AR9287 Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) [168c:002e] (rev 01)
	Kernel driver in use: ath9k
	Kernel modules: ath9k
Is an Acer notebook: http://www.h-node.com/notebooks/view/en/92/Aspire-4252-V801/1/1/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef then, should I add the wireless with the Acer name like the vendor? so, should I add the wireless with the Acer name like the vendor?

xirnowz:
I just saw in the vendor page of the laptop that the vendor name of the wireless appears like Atheros http://support.acer.com/us/en/product_support.aspx?tab=1

although, there is not the exact model, because the notebook don't have windows drivers, it comes with GNU/Linux installed. so.. What should I do?

It seems there are a lot of notebooks having a video card based on the Atheros chipset. Here is a list:

Atheros AR5001

  • Pavilion-dv5-1215el (link)
  • F3U (link)
  • Aspire-5520 (link)
  • satelite-A215-S4697 (link)
  • EeePc-900 (link)
  • ASPIRE-ONE-ZG5 (link)

Atheros AR9285

Atheros AR9287

  • Aspire-4252-V801 (link)

Atheros HB95

We could add Atheros as vendor name or add the wifi chipset category or find some other way in order to list the working Atheros-based wifi cards

I think we could add Atheros as vendor name, perhaps something like "Atheros (chipset)"...
