Add IP Camera category
submitted by map7, 21:00, 31 March 2015
TOPIC: new categories of hardware
STATUS: opened
PRIORITY: low
Description:
I recently been testing a number of ip cameras and they range in compatibility with linux. Some of them you cannot even login to the Web Frontend without Windows (Foscam) and this would be worth noting to other people likely of buying such devices. I think it would be important to mention if it is compatible with zoneminder & motion and if you can stream MJPEG, MP4 or x264 under linux and what those commands are. Pooling the data from the motion wiki, zoneminder & multiple forums into this one place would be a great benefit.

Some IP cameras could probalby run fully free distributions as well. So we could rename 'laptops' to computers as explained here: https://h-node.org/issues/view/en/297/1/8a737f9d18f8cf131922283571674bc5 However I'm unsure how the compatibility with the camera's software could be described in h-node. Maybe you could treat it as a "Webcam" for that?
