Hello, following the FSF point of view[1], I think H-Node should explicitly mentions "GNU/Linux" before "distributions" in the field "My favorite distribution:", in users' public profiles. [1] "If you prefer to use some other term such as “system distribution” for the entire collection of programs, instead of “operating system”, that's fine. Then you would talk about GNU/Linux system distributions." https://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html#osvskernel

You are right, we should always use GNU/Linux when we talk about a GNU/Linux distribution. Anyway, I think that in the case indicated by you, the label of the entry named "my favourite distribution", one could also specify a BSD distribution, even if it is not fully free. What do you think?

Hi Gustavo, I think you have misinterpreted the FSF's point of view. When they say "Then you would talk about GNU/Linux system distributions," they only mean that you should not say "Linux system distribution" when referring to a GNU/Linux system distribution. They are not requesting that everyone should prefix "distribution" with "GNU/Linux", only that you use "GNU/Linux" instead of "Linux" whenever you are referring to the entire GNU system. If you don't need to say "Linux", then there's no reason to say "GNU/Linux" either.

Hi, I think you are both right; I misunderstood both the situation and FSF's point of view. Thanks for bringing these up.
