Works with no 3d acceleration on Dragora, Trisquel, and now Parabola as of 2017

By default: does not work, says there is no free firmware, and soon shows garbage (not a hang).

With radeon.modeset=0 or nomodeset in boot options, text console works. Haven't tried starting X.

On Debian GNU/Linux wheezy/sid, it is the same before X is started. If Xorg has been started, showing the text (fb) console requires KMS and the binary-only microcode, sending no signal to the monitor when those are not available. So I say it is not usable.

In 2017, I, ElonSatoshi, have been using this chip in Parabola for the last few months, using X.org, with the Radeon driver. There's no video acceleration, VDPAU, anything like that. The GPU, according to Screenfetch, is "Gallium 0.4 on llvmpipe (LLVM 4.0, 128 bits)". Videos in VLC become slow and broken frequently, unless the "Fit to Window" option is unchecked and the video is played at its original size. However, videos seem to play a lot better in mpv. I've tested several games. Minetest, Hedgewars, SuperTux, ZDoom, and 0ad all have very slow framerates. The only games I've tested that show playable framerates are odamex, chocolate doom, and nethack. Also, some xscreensavers have a reduced framerate.
