I have a Chic USB barcode scanner which is recognized by Windows, but it does not read and store barcodes. I tested with Notepad, but when I press the trigger, nothing appears in Notepad. Do I need some sort of driver.

The one listed here is an esky, you can check to see if yours is the same model by going to GNU/Linux terminal and typing "lsusb" and comparing it against the vendorid/productid. If it is supported by the Linux kernel you should not need any drivers. It sounds to me like a different model that is incompatible, it may be good to let others know about this if it is new and not listed here on h-node.
