Description:

The model name returned by dmidecode is "K55A", but I know that's too short. The stickers on the bottom of my laptop have worn away, but luckily the stickers under the battery were protected. There's lots of numbers on the various stickers here. On the battery itself, there's a sticker with "K55A-RHI5N13" which jumped out to me at first since it begins with "K55A-", and there are plenty of other numbers on the battery that could be the model number of the battery, but putting the model number of the laptop on the battery seems odd to me, so I found a different sticker on the laptop itself with "KCC-RMM-MSO-NB-K55A", which is what I chose for the model field. But, a search for "KCC-RMM-MSO-NB-K55A" turns up nothing, while a search for "K55A-RHI5N13" turns up several results. I acquired this laptop refurbished (in 2013 I think), so it's possible that the battery is not the one that originally went with the laptop (It also came with more RAM than expected (8GB instead of 6GB) and lots of extra hard disk partitions.). The laptop says "+19V" (volts), and the battery says "+10.8V", but that doesn't say anything about whether the battery is or isn't original.

I don't think the UEFI firmware is free or even can (feasibly) be free due to the Intel Management Engine, though, it may be possible to get close with this article Libreboot linked (Be careful when messing with BIOS/UEFI firmware! Always make backups first!) (Also I have not attempted or even fully read these instructions.).

I couldn't find information specific to my model about Wi-Fi card whitelists, but this article suggests that Asus does not enforce whitelisting.

The BIOS release date is 08/20/2012 so that's what I put as the year of commercialization, even though I remember thinking it was released in 2013.

I couldn't get compiz to work, but glxinfo shows that direct rendering is enabled and glxgears shows 60fps (monitor refresh rate is 60hz), so I marked the video card as working with 3D acceleration.
