Extraa info

Hi and thanks for your contribution.

Can you please add output from lspci -vmmnn and lspci -nnk commands to the device's description like in [a]http://h-node.org//notebooks/view/en/680/Thinkpad-T420|this[/a] page? It would help a lot. I noticed you could upgrade your notebook from class C to A. I tried to locate the wifi card on h-node and I found two possible candidates:

  • [a]http://h-node.org//wifi/view/en/330/Atheros-Communications-Inc--AR9285-Wireless-Network-Adapter--PCI-Express---rev-01-|candidate 1[/a]
  • [a]http://h-node.org//wifi/view/en/103/Atheros-AR9285-Wireless-Network-Adapter|candidate 2[/a]

Can you add a link to the wifi card to the description or at least the VendorID:ProductID code of the device so others can find it if they want to upgrade their notebook like you did?

Happy hacking!

sorry

Not a A-platinum notebook
by Ark74, 17:00, 22 May 2013

Hi!, its a long time, but i'm seeing now that this notebook is listed as A platinum, but it isn't (wasn't) at the time i tested.

I had to replace the mini-PCI-E to another model, and now i have working most of the notebook.

Please, let me know if you tested this device with another kernel or if it just work out of the box, maybe may model came with another wifi card.

For me (even with the wificard change) it's a B class tops, the media buttons on the front of the keyboard won't work on linux-libre 3.2.0-43-generic-pae

Test again, please

Hi,

Can you test the laptop with Trisquel 6 with its original PCI-E model in place? If it still isn't A Platinum then please change it to the correct one, please.

I can't test this laptop because I don't have it anymore.

Happy Hacking!

Testing... again?

Man... i don't even know if i still have that card O_o I'll try to check it out, but again, some time the same model of notebook comes with different wificards, so maybe we have each one each model. Keep tuned... :)
DIfferent versions?
by lammi87, 13:31, 24 May 2013

Are there different versions of the laptop like with Pavilion laptops:

  • Pavilion dv5-1215el
  • Pavilion dv5-2045la
  • etc.
  • Can you check below the battery or the laptop if the model name has any extra characters? If it has then each version has to be reported separately.

    Details

    Lenovo IdeaPad Z470
    Model Name (@/"&#(/"$ :P):20094
    INPUT. 20V - 4.5A
    Mfg Date: 2011/07/09
    S/N: QB03649369
    MO: QB01070812
    Factory ID: CS20
    ........

Sooo, maybe i really need to test again with the old card to find out. 'cause the model name is Z470. Maybe 20094 can be the difference.

Please test the laptop with its original card and report your findings (you can overwrite the existing entry). Then change the laptop's name to IdeaPad Z470 20094. Different versions of the same model cause problems. That's why they have to be tested and reported separately each.
    Here the results
    by Ark74, 18:10, 26 May 2013

Hi again, i've tested the old Mini PCI-E card and the result is the same.

The wificard won't work on Trisquel with Linux-libre 3.2.0-43-generic-pae. I've looked for it and it turns out that this model ships with different wificards, so far i can notice 3 of them on this page*.
    • Intel
    • Atheros
    • CyberTan

So i've come with an idea, what if on the description we explain this difference, and 'till we have other models to compare we avoid IdeaPad Z470 20094 so that we don't fill another device when we are talking about the same notebook.

Good thing that we can replace it easily, not like this**. Cheers!
