Not able to add mini-pci-e card due to vendorID:productID issue
submitted by tedious, 02:29, 19 Maio 2012
TÓPICO: other
STATUS: opened
PRIORIDADE: medium
Descrição:

Attempting to create an entry for a: Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL8187B Wireless Adapter

Interface: mini-pci-e

vendorID:productID - 0bda:8197

After trying to save the entry, the following message displays on the page
Your vendor has not been found.

Your vendorid code is not present in the list. If it is a USB device, please choose the right interface (USB), otherwise the system will check inside the PCI ID vendors' list. If it is not a USB device, and you are not sure about the right interface, choose not-defined, and it should work fine (the system will check inside the PCI ID vendors' list if you choose an interface other than USB).

If your vendor has not been found yet, please open an issue here in order to ask the insertion of your vendor.

If your vendor has not been found you could also send your PCI ID or USB ID to the PCI ID repository (http://pciids.sourceforge.net/) or to the USB ID repository (http://www.linux-usb.org/usb-ids.html).

Are you sure it does not use the USB bus? Because your device is not present inside the pciids list, it is present inside the usbids list. See here: http://www.linux-usb.org/usb.ids. It should work if you choose USB. If you are sure that it does not use the USB bus then I will add the vendor id

To be honest I don't know if it uses the USB bus, most I know is the chipset, and the interface it plugs into. Which is mini-pci-e. If it helps, I added the card myself, it's not what originally came with the laptop.

Another question: can you see the device using lspci?
