yes, this is a real problem. I suppose we should start to save also the subvendorid, subproductid and the revision. Those codes can be found using lspci -vmmnn

here is an example (this is my videocard):

Slot:	05:00.0
Class:	VGA compatible controller [0300]
Vendor:	nVidia Corporation [10de]
Device:	G86 [GeForce 8400M GS] [0427]
SVendor:	Hewlett-Packard Company [103c]
SDevice:	Device [30cf]
Rev:	a1

the SVendor, SDevice and Rev fields don't have been considered, it's my fault.. anyway, not all the devices have those subcodes.. so it should be an optional entry..

The new entry could be called "subvendor:subproduct:rev"

Anyway, this problem should arise only in the case of PCI devices.

We should also specify in the help page how to find those subcodes

Do any of you have some different solution?

I bring back this issue because of a similar detail.

In here we have a similar case, the lsusb output model recognize different devices as one.

The devices are kind of a similar branch, so we could imply that there are not different changes. The thing here is different model devices by a similar lsusb|lspci command, would we tread this as we did on the main topic of this issue.

I think that all the devices with the same vendorid:productid code have to be put in a single page, as you have correctly done in the page linked. If there are more names these have to be written inside the "other possible names" entry.. is the lsusb command the same for the two devices?

It looks like it does:

Huawei E1550 3G USB Modem
Quoting
This USB dongle is listed as Huawei E620 by lsusb.
HUAWEI E1556 - HSDPA USB Stick
lsusb output
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 12d1:1001 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E620 USB Modem
