Import WiFi cards from Debian Wiki

ARGUMENTO: add a vendor name

Descripción:
Debian Wiki is clear about the WiFi drivers (if the drivers require non-free firmware or work only with free software), plus driver pages usually provide infos such as the PCI ids and names of the cards supported by the driver, so I think it could be a good idea to import the data from these pages to h-node (add a notification on the index page as it's done for FSF's hw database).

by the way, the Debian Wiki page for WiFi is located at http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi .

are those devices tested with the linux-libre kernel or with the standard linux kernel?

I don't know, since this page was already existing before Debian chooses to use a firmware-free kernel, probably with a standard linux kernel, but still, we could at least import the drivers that requires the non-free firmwares as not working. And generally speaking, the drivers marked as fully-free will work on a linux-libre. I haven't checked for all of them, but each time I had to, it was correct (and we could also check the source code of the drivers).

I'm not sure about this. For example, they list bcm43xx devices as working with free software (http://wiki.debian.org/WiFi#PCI_Devices), but then they explain how to install the b43 drivers, that shouldn't be free, while some of those cards could work with free software thanks to the drivers written by the openfwwf project.

but still, we could at least import the drivers that requires the non-free firmwares as not working

This could be less risky.

Anyway, since there is a lot of work to do in order to find the vendorid and the productid and so on, I propose to finish the work of importing the FSF hardware database to h-node :P

No, there is not that much work to do to get vendorid and productid since all the suuported devices are listed on the driver pages (e.g. http://wiki.debian.org/acx#Supported_Devices ). Anyway, I agree with you, we should first finish to import data from FSF database.

And generally speaking, the drivers marked as fully-free will work on a linux-libre. This is generally true although you can't forget that many of the free software drivers depend on non-free firmware. The non-free distributions are not necessarily packaging the free firmware. When you remove the kernel and non-free packages and replace it with linux-libre you are then going to need to add the free versions of the firmware. Here is a listing of free drivers and if they depend on non-free firmware: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_open_source_wireless_drivers is another good page to look at.
