Wireless Adapters

There does not appear to be any hardware category for wireless adapters. The Iogear Universal Wi-Fi N adapter model GWU627 is a small box at the end of an ethernet cable. The other end plugs into any ethernet using device. The signals to/from the cable are from an 802.11n wireless signal. The device is operating system agnostic. The setup uses IP properties and a browser. After setup the device functions by itself.

Hi OwlBob, what's the difference between a wireless adapter and a wifi card? Wouldn't it be possible to insert it inside the wifi card category?

Hi tonicucoz: A card to me is something flat-like that you put into your computer case into a slot for some interface. An adaptor can be either internal or external with connections to some internal buss or external connection. When I try to add an entry for this device there are several problems. There is no model name since neither the PCI or USB connections are used. The is no VendorID:ProductID code for the same reason. The interface is ethernet which is not a provided choice. The GNU/Linux distribution used is not on the list (Debian wheezy). It works with free software as long as it supports ethernet. No driver is required.

From my understanding the device indicated by you is a wifi card with an ethernet interface. It shouldn't be only an adaptor (something like: input ethernet, output USB) since it can connect to a wifi router, so it is very similar to a wifi USB external device.

Why there are the model name and VendorID:ProductID ? Can't you find the device using lspci or lsusb?

About the ethernet interface: you are right, I have to add it for wifi card as soon as possible

About Debian: Debian is not fully free, so we can't allow users to test their devices with it. You can use a Trisquel live cd for the test. Would it be possible for you?

Thanks!
