Description:

Hi, this is lammi87.

Can we add a new link to the front page's section "Other resources on the net:"?

Other resources on the net:
Here is a list of other archives collecting information about hardware working with free software: Free Software Foundation archive LibrePlanet Freest Hardware Page gNewSense Laptop Guide LibrePlanet Italia - progetti hardware database

It would be a link to this page which lists portable music players which support Vorbis (.ogg).

There was a discussion about music players here http://www.h-node.org/issues/view/en/30/6/bf78a8c0679c5fd8479b361686b60b8b. The problem is that they don't have a free operating system, so we have thought to add a category of music players tested with a free operating system, but then the idea has never been applied

Hi tonicucoz

I didn't mean free music players as a new hardware category. I ment that we should add a link to the page I mentioned to the front page as a other resource which people can use. If FSF can recommend that page, why can't we?

I think it is better to have at least a link to a page that list "mp3 players" that support free formats if we can't add them as a hardware category (yet?). They might not be free hardware but at least they support free formats. Why shouldn't this page be listed as "other resource which doesn't do exactly the same job as we do but promotes user's freedom from other perspective" on our front page? Music players which support free formats are hard to find. Link to this page would be usefull to many, I think.

One more thing. Maybe we should edit the "other resources on the net" section a bit. How about if we change it like this:

Other resources on the net:
Here is a list of other archives collecting information about hardware working with free software: LibrePlanet Freest Hardware Page gNewSense Laptop Guide LibrePlanet Italia - progetti hardware database coreboot.org - free BIOS project and database of supported motherboards Here is a list of other pages which might be usefull: xiph.org - archive of music players which support free formats

I added links to the page I mentioned and to coreboot's (free BIOS) list of supported motherboards. I also removed the FSF's hardware database link (is it really needed anymore?).

What do you think?

Ok, I think your solution is good, I will change it as soon as possible. The problem should arise with translations in different languages, but I will keep English where I won't be able to get the translation
